Competitions
Journeymen/ASICS Northeast Collegiate Duals and the Journeymen / ASICS Sprawl & Brawl have taken the wrestling world by storm. Widely recognized as two of the best early season collegiate wrestling events in the country, these two tournaments get 1/3 of all division I collegiate wrestling programs to wrestle in NY State within a 7 days span. Although New York State has an extremely rich high school wrestling tradition; several parts of the state are completely without collegiate wrestling. Certain interpretations of Title IX and depleted state funding have taken their toll on the sport in a big way. Upstate NY (Capital Region) has been hit hard in particular, losing Syracuse, SUNY Albany, Union College, Hudson Valley, RPI, and St Lawrence to name just a few. Essentially losing these programs has left the Capital Region without a D-I, II, or III collegiate wrestling program within a 65-mile radius. A void of this magnitude has a profound impact on our immediate wrestling community. When pee-wee to high school wrestlers, even coaches, aren’t exposed to, aren’t influenced by, and are not inspired by our sports heroes; we do a disservice to them. In an effort to bridge this gap, Journeymen Wrestling has organized and initiated a two upper level Division I dual meet tournaments to be hosted in NY State – Northeast Duals (Hudson Valley Community College, Troy NY) and Sprawl & Brawl (Binghamton University, Vestal NY). These tournaments are purposely hosted at small arenas in an effort to make the younger wrestlers see the event in an intimate setting. Journeymen Wrestling hopes that by showcasing elite level collegiate wrestling, our wrestling youth will aspire to continue their post high school wrestling journey and be a part of the world’s greatest sport! With all this being said, we’re very appreciative to the collegiate teams that continue to support these endeavors.
Come support our newest event – a high school / college combo competition called the Journeymen / ASICS NY State Wrestling Duals – The Civil War (Shenendehowa HS Clifton Park NY). December 11 & 12 will be the battle date for this great event. This event features a great tri-meet between D-I programs Binghamton, Army and Ohio University (Dec 12 2010), as well as a spectacular high school competition between perennial NY State ranked programs – John Jay (Sect 1), Shenendehowa (Sect 2), Waverly (Sect 4), Fairport (Sect 5), Wantagh (Sect 8), Plainedge (Sect
Monsignor Farrell (Catholic) and Sachem East (Sect 11). DON’T MISS IT!
